My First Post :)

Hi World

So this is my first post on what I hope to be a long lasting and semi insightful blog. When I say insightful, I mean to me...I tried to blog before, hoping that telling the faceless population of our planet about my exercise regimen would keep me motivated. It didn't.

So, this time, I'm hoping that my little blog continues, evolves and hopefully teaches me a bit about this newfangled craze. I decided recently that I should have more hobbies and interests (besides beer - see profile picture for evidence), and that if I was going to have hobbies and interests I had better tell someone! :) I just want it to be an outlet for sharing my 'stuff' and perhaps create a byproduct of having a 'blogging' hobby too.

I'm not expecting anyone to read them, or follow them. I am expecting to keep my pact of blogging once a week about something thats caught my fancy. We'll see. I did manage to keep a diary for years when I was a hormonal teenager, so how hard can it be?! on that note, if anyone out there is reading this, please stop me if I start blogging about kissing boys and wearing jelly shoes. Hmmm....

Ok, I can hear people slowly dying inside realising that there's very little point to what I've written thus far. So (So?! Its my blog! haha) I will tell you a little about the author.

I'm Claire. I have a cat called Steve. I just got married. I work in Media and I've just bought my first DSLR.
I have an amazing husband, and a shiny new (yet a little more boring than the previous) last name. I have a lot of love for a lot of things, but I tend to flit between stuff I like rather than commit to hobbies. I am an awful driver. I have a very weak will but I'm equally quite stubborn. Doesn't make sense does it!? I am finally out of my overdraft.

I've set myself a little challenge this week of trying to teach myself photography. Well...not photography as such, but to take better pictures *Hobby number 1*
I guess I've always loved being creative, but judging by my art classes at school, never had any raw talent (boooo!) and I have always loved photography. Especially as a means of expression. I hate photos just for the sake of it, like the holiday snaps people take of themselves in the semi - distance to prove they've been to the beach. Or whatever. Bore off. Sorry, not that I'm judging (but I do that a lot) but it's disappointing - what do people actually do with photos like that? You never see those ones framed and mounted in the living room do you!?

So, I think my first little project will be to STOP just pointing and shooting, and actually understand my camera and how it works. I want to be able to take it out of auto settings and manipulate the magic 3 settings (ISO, Aperture and Shutter speed, so I've learnt this week!) to see the effects of them on the composition and exposure of the shot. There, the science bit is over! *phew*

All there is to do now is to find which drawer my lovely husband has 'tidied' the camera manual into! I may be here a while!
